The candidate will work with an interdisciplinary environmental team based out of Yakima Training Center (YTC), WA, Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division.
This position will support the YTC Cultural Resources Program and help ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local Laws and regulations; Executive Orders; and DoD, Army, USAR & RSC regulations and policies.
Essential Functions:
Conduct archeological fieldwork including surveys, testing, evaluations, and mitigation projects.
Cultural Resource Surveys, Testing, Mitigation, and Evaluations shall be in accordance with existing YTC procedures.
Assist with management of data and preparation of cultural resource-related reports.
Data shall be managed in accordance with existing data management procedures.
Data recovery actions shall be accomplished in accordance with existing YTC procedures.
Serve as subject matter expert on Integrated Disciplinary Teams (IDT) to evaluate projects or actions occurring at YTC.
Support includes attending planning meetings (e.
g.
, Charrettes) and providing recommendations and documentation for appropriate management of cultural resources associated with, and/or needed to support, the project or action.
Perform archaeological inventories and data recovery projects, including the collection of mapping and GIS data for the identification and evaluation of historic properties.
Prepare fieldwork documentation, including survey reports, site evaluations, site forms, prehistoric and historic artifact analysis, photographic documentation, and field records.
Prepare other Cultural Resource Management documentation as required, including investigation summaries and status reports.
Conduct archival research by locating and examining historical records, maps, and documents as required.
Activities include preparation of artifacts, documents, and records for accessioning, loans or archiving, packaging materials for storage or shipment, and inventorying collections.
Develop after-action reports and site re-evaluations relating to site conditions about activities that may impact significant cultural resources.
Site condition and damage will be documented using current GPS, digital photography, and total station technology.
The Contractor will assess the sites for damage and level of protection.
Assist with monitoring of National Register-eligible properties by determining the extent of damage to site protection measures caused by training or other activities.
Provide to YTC Program Manager, written documentation about the condition of National Register-eligible property inspections to include site-specific comments and observations.

Review reports and other materials, and produce supporting documentation as needed.
Compose, update, maintain, and deploy archeological databases.
Maintain databases in accordance with current YTC database standards Coordinate volunteers, interns, research visits, and others in Cultural Resources-related activities.
Provide input and/or conduct public education and awareness presentations.
Advise YTC planning and operations relative to appropriate and compliant cultural resources management in briefings or meetings that concern and/or may impact cultural landscapes on YTC.
Qualifications (Education and Experience):
Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology or related discipline is preferred.
