As a Maintenance Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Operator) you will perform installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels, and outlet boxes. Inspect, maintain, repair, test, and adjust a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances. Perform maintenance services, diagnose system or equipment malfunction and make repairs as necessary. Examine equipment to determine extent of repair required, disassemble equipment, requisition parts, repair or replace damaged parts or components, reassemble equipment, and perform a final operational check-out to assure that equipment functions properly. Perform machining operation on damaged parts when new replacements are not readily available. Install, recognize causes of faulty equipment, and make uncomplicated repairs on a variety of small domestic and commercial heating, furnaces, refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems such as walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, ice cream cabinets, deep freezers, and other equipment. Construct, repair, or modify items and structures such as frame work, doors, finished paneling, windows, interior and exterior trim, forms, and siding. Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and repair work such as that which involves cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems. Perform routine installation, maintenance, and repairs on electric distribution lines. Operate truck with aerial manlift in performance of duties.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Screen Out Element: Your resume must show that under close supervision you have demonstrated the ability to apply specific maintenance and repair procedures to install, maintain, and repair general industrial plant machinery and equipment. Demonstrated the ability to make repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, damaged light fixtures, and poorly operating thermostats. Demonstrated ability installing, recognizing the causes of faulty equipment, and making repairs on a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems such as walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, ice cream cabinets, deep freezers, evaporative coolers, attic and evaporative fans, and other equipment of comparable complexity. Failure to meet the screen out element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical effort: Work involves climbing ladders, poles, towers, or structures. Good hand and eye coordination is required. Repairs are made on equipment which may require maneuvering and may require lifting of items up to 50 pounds; occasionally handles heavier items. Frequent bending, stooping, and stretching is required, as well as working in hard-to-reach places and in awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Incumbent is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oils, and noisy conditions. Incumbent is subject to possible injury from vehicular accidents or hand and power tools used. Incumbent is subject to falls from heights, cuts, bruises, insect bites, and stings, scrapes, burns, infections, and broken bones. Incumbent is subject to strains and injuries from lifting. Subject to serious injury or death from electrical shocks and electrocution. Incumbent is subject to emergency call back duty. Uses safety equipment as required.
