Social Service Representative

Duties Include but are not limited to:
Act as a Liaison between all parties, including but not limited to the VA, Public Housing Authority (PHA), landlords, community agencies, and Veterans. Educates, helps, and supports Veterans in their efforts to obtain necessary documents, fill out required forms, submit PHA packet information, locate suitable housing, and lease an apartment Establishing a system to track each Veteran's progress through various paperwork requirements and processes from entry into HUD/VASH until housed. Develop and maintain relationships with community landlords, real estate agents, property managers and owners, civic groups and other agencies to identify potential housing units for Veterans to lease in the HUD/VASH program. Know and understand the Housing Quality Standards (HQS) utilized by the PHA during their inspection process. Organize and conduct a walk-through of potential rentals and use the HQS and any other local PHA requirements to ensure the unit will meet PHA housing requirements. Work Schedule:

Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include experience in a program of direct social welfare services that required the application of program policy and operations knowledge in providing social welfare services and/or assisting social workers. Experience navigating social service programs; Experience developing rapport and building relationships with clients and community partners; Experience working as an integral part of a team and functioning in a team environment; Demonstrated experience operating within complex social systems, overcoming barriers, to find creative and positive outcomes; Experience working in shelters, group homes; Experience doing community street outreach; Experience working with Veterans; Experience working independently and alone in people's homes, and in the community. Physical Requirements:
The work includes sitting at a desk working on a computer for long periods of time and/or filling out forms and tracking paperwork through various processes. It also entails driving, walking, standing, and/or bending for extended periods of time and carrying items such as papers, books, manuals and/or a laptop. Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in the community where VA cannot control environment conditions. Work will be completed in a wide range of settings including, shelters, local soup kitchens, outside, in abandoned buildings, Veteran's homes, community agency facilities, and VA facilities. The HSS must be able to work comfortably in all these settings and further work with a wide variety of persons, some who can be difficult to work with due to long histories of living outside and having complex mental health, social, and/or substance abuse issues. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
