Assistant US Attorney

The office currently has an Assistant United States Attorney position available in the Criminal Division, Yakima branch office. The attorney selected will be part of a dedicated team assisting in the enforcement and prosecution of federal criminal laws. The primary assignments for the attorney selected will include the investigation and prosecution of a wide-range of criminal matters to include, for example, violent crimes, firearms, drug trafficking, Indian Country matters, gangs, immigration, counterfeiting, child exploitation, explosives, and white collar/economic crimes, as well as drafting appellate briefs and arguing cases before appellate court judges. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements:
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements:
Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district-specific information. Selective Service:

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred
Qualifications:
Have a minimum of 4 years of post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. Applicants must possess excellent research and writing skills, superior oral communication skills and demonstrated capacity to function with minimal guidance, in a highly demanding environment. Ideal applicants will possess significant trial or other relevant experience involving one or more of the variety of criminal matter identified above. Applicants must exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with the attorney team leaders, attorneys, staff and client agencies. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
