Student Trainee (Clerk/Office Automation)

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for the management and control of the District's short and long-range budget. Typical work assignments will include:
Incumbent performs office automation work to facilitate office activities. Receives visitors, telephone calls and determines nature of inquiry. Uses automation equipment and software such as word processing and spreadsheets to produce a wide variety of narrative and tabular materials, (e. g., correspondence, technical reports, time and attendance reports, graphics, calendars, charts, statistical tables and various forms and documents). Uses word processing software and related hardware equipment to produce a variety of correspondence, reports, office forms, and other written material in final form, including technical material, tabular material, and other non-routine typing from rough draft or voice recordings. Uses varied and advanced functions of word processing software to create, format, modify, edit, and print a variety of letters, reports, memos, spreadsheets, databases, graphics, or publishing software. Prepares a wide variety of recurring correspondence, internal reports, and other documents from information obtained from the staff, files, and other sources and reviews and finalizes documents prepared by others. Reviews and processes incoming and outgoing correspondence, materials, publications, regulations, and directives. Establishes, updates, and maintains office records of various types that may be needed or will assist in the efficient operation of the office. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. To be eligible for this internship ALL of the following requirements must be met:
Student Status:
Definition of a student - applicant must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, graduate/professional school, or certificate program equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study (go to http:
//www.ed.gov/accreditation to verify accreditation status) pursuant to 5 CFR 362. You must be considered in good academic standings by the school. Individuals must be taking at least a half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. Half-time is defined by the school in which the student is enrolled. Grade Point Average:
You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Citizenship:
Student Interns must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)Background Investigation:

To be eligible at the GS-4 level, you must have at least one (1) year of general experience or two (2) years of education above the high school level or an Associate's degree; or a combination of both general experience and education as explained below. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of a Student Trainee (Clerical). Examples of general experience include:
filing material in alphabetical, numerical, or chronological order; operating a copying machine; collating and stapling materials; producing a variety of written documents utilizing varied and advanced word processing software functions; securing statistical or other information from files and related sources. Experience:
Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at the GS-04 level. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
